Dear Jason,

It was good to hear from you today. I'm glad there is someone enjoying this project. It begins to cause stress some days, trying to finish a track in time to catch a bus to Saratoga (or else make one on the bus), which would probably seem ridiculous to most people. It sure is easy to say "What's the point?" but I don't like saying stuff that's easy.
I'm down to the last half hour now and fixing up this music. I went with a meditative style today using an Ethiopian scale. I break out of ruts by using exotic scales, which felt necessary after last night. An older black guy I know (you've probably seen him around town over the years, perhaps juggling bowling pins) brought a keyboard to Circus Cafe open mic just to see me play it (he doesn't know how, just has one and apparently lives very close to there). I wasn't prepared for it, so I got a drummer and bassist to jump on and improvise, but my part just had this all-too-familiar sound to it, like there's a place that feels like rock bottom to me now, where "improv" is just going through motions in familiar patterns in place of ideas. I don't know what it sounds like to anyone else. A lot of C#m and its relatives.
I chose a voice in the user bank called "Musicbox" today because I noticed it had no music box sound; I deleted the waveform at some point. I worked from there and renamed the voice Magicbox. It doesn't matter what the result is as long as Magicbox is good enough to record a few minutes of music with. That's better than I can do on some days. That's pretty musch how it is with a self-imposed daily deadline. I guess you could say it's satisfying. I'm basically forcing myself to learn the rest of what I want to know because I still feel like I'm behind where I should be in some ways. I wasted a lot of time...
I should go now, but maybe I'll see you around sometime, or we can get together and catch up if our schedules permit.
Best wishes,
Andrew
